30 Poems in 30 Days - Day 8

Today's assignment: Write an elegy about a person or event that is meaningful to you. You don’t necessarily have to approach the most tragic event in your life. Don’t try to take on an event that is still too difficult for you to deal with. Look for something that you can handle.

I've wrote many a post about Rick when he died so it is only appropriate my elegy be about him.

no title for this one yet..... it's a work in progress

From fifteen to fifty-five
we shared each others
hurts and pain and loved
so passionately we couldn’t

ever marry each other
so we would marry
other people and when
you knew you would die soon

You wanted to give us one
last chance for fun and leave
our spouses. Go to Las Vegas
then California where you would die.

I wrote poems about you
you wrote songs about me
then one day you were gone
and my life has never been

the same without your phone calls
your laugh, your jokes about how
we would end up together in a nursing
home where we would drive the other

people crazy while we played
rock music and sang as we
rocked in our chairs still together
now - it will never happen.
