Pink Slips

I have reached that certain age where many of us are looking forward to collecting our social security next year. But also where many of my friends are suffering from ailments that go along with the aging process. Sadly some are suffering from more serious ailments and will not be with us much longer, while others have already passed away. But all of this is to expected at our age, but what is not expected is to receive that pink termination notice! I received a message, from yet another friend, today that she had received a termination notice due to cut backs. What is a person of our age to do about income? There are no jobs out there and those that are available go to the young people. Why would anyone hire someone so close to retirement, which brings me to another question as to why someone would fire someone so close to retirement. The answer is clear...so they can hire someone younger at half the pay. No longer does experience count, it's the bottom line that matters. I get more and more angry at the Bush administration for this mess and wonder how The Shrub sleeps at night as more and more Americans are losing their jobs due to the economy his administration created. I won't rant and rave, I just wanted to voice my opinion on the injustice of firing the elderly workers who are the ones who truly have no chance of finding new employment. End of rant. thanks for reading.

The Case of the Disappearing Needle!

It was a calm Sunday evening as the Johnson's sat, in their living room, watching old I Spy shows. Bonnie decided to not waste the time just watching and got out some sewing. After the needle ran out of thread she stuck it in the top of the spool and put down the article of clothing she had been sewing. When she reached for the needle to rethread it she was shocked to find it missing! What had happened to the needle? She knew she had stuck it in the spool, but she had been forgetting things lately so perhaps she had stuck it in her shirt. No, it wasn't there! Maybe it had fallen to the floor, but after much searching with a flashlight and even sweeping up all around the area there was nothing to be found. The needle had disappeared. She knew she was getting older, but couldn't be getting that feeble minded. At long last the hunt ended and Bonnie decided to use another needle. She got one out and as she began to spin the thread around her hand she heard a clicking from inside the spool! Could it be? No! no way! She shook the spool and heard it again. The unmistakeable sound of a needle clicking in the middle of the spool. She removed the paper from the top of the spool of thread and there it lay innocent as could be. Yes, it tried a daring escape in it's disappearing act, but the ever vigilant Bonnie Zephyr was on the case and there was no escape.

The Day The Muzak Died!

Yes, folks, today the company that provides that annoying muzak background noise in stores and elevators filed for Chapter 11! The only problem is it really won't stop. At least for now....

Muzak, which is majority owned by private equity fund ABRY Partners LLC, said it has sufficient means to support the business during the chapter 11 process.

We can only hope!

A Family Affair

I have to say yesterday's superbowl was one of the more exciting games I've seen in a long time! The Steelers won in the final seconds! I have to say I wasn't real proud of their behaviour on the field though. I understand it's a tough game, but when you start beating up the players, on the sidelines, you are just showing how out of control you are and it makes the team look bad. At one point we needed a miracle so I stood up and started chanting interception/touchdown! and dang if it didn't happen! James Harrison, a linebacker for the steelers, made the interception and then ran 100 yards!!!!! for the touchdown. That was the longest scoring play in superbowl history. And then in the final 35 seconds Roethlisbberger threw a pass to Holmes who then made the game winning touchdown.

But the most fun was my sister Linda and I kept texting each other during the game and my mom and I kept calling each other. We were all working together to get the mojo going to get the Steelers their 6th superbowl win.
