Pink Slips

I have reached that certain age where many of us are looking forward to collecting our social security next year. But also where many of my friends are suffering from ailments that go along with the aging process. Sadly some are suffering from more serious ailments and will not be with us much longer, while others have already passed away. But all of this is to expected at our age, but what is not expected is to receive that pink termination notice! I received a message, from yet another friend, today that she had received a termination notice due to cut backs. What is a person of our age to do about income? There are no jobs out there and those that are available go to the young people. Why would anyone hire someone so close to retirement, which brings me to another question as to why someone would fire someone so close to retirement. The answer is clear...so they can hire someone younger at half the pay. No longer does experience count, it's the bottom line that matters. I get more and more angry at the Bush administration for this mess and wonder how The Shrub sleeps at night as more and more Americans are losing their jobs due to the economy his administration created. I won't rant and rave, I just wanted to voice my opinion on the injustice of firing the elderly workers who are the ones who truly have no chance of finding new employment. End of rant. thanks for reading.

Yup. As frustrated as I am with teaching, I know the desperate need for teachers and the inability to outsource classrooms, I have a better shot at keeping my job than a lot of others. And although we look from our age at how hard it is, I don't know that it's really any less hard for younger people. I know many who are getting laid off and unable to find another job while they have small children to support and are putting of weddings and other things because of finances.

Then we have the victims of Madoff and others who had intended to spend a quiet retirement and are finding themselves bagging groceries at Stop n Shop to make ends meet.

We are in a bloody mess right now. I do hope we all learn to do without, join together and maybe turn this country in a different direction. I'm not even going to say turn it around because I don't think that where we came from is good.
